How does this guide form its recommendations?
Every recommendation in this guide comes from two places: Cydney Mar’s own 45+ years of product development and selling experience, and published industry statistics quoted exactly and credited to their source.
The Retail Launch Guide is written and published by Cydney Mar. It is not an independent review. This page explains the criteria used to compare launch channels, how numbers are handled and the limits of what the guide can tell you, so you can judge its advice for yourself.

What we draw on
Practical guidance reflects the stages of Cydney Mar’s Concept-to-Reality Pathway and her experience across couture, high end, big box retail, TV shopping and DTC. Market figures come only from these published sources:

The criteria we use to compare channels
Retail, DTC and TV shopping are always judged on the same criteria:
- Who reaches the shopper.
- The share of the price you keep.
- What must be ready before launch.
- How quickly a first sale can happen.
- How much of the brand story you control.
- The main risk.
- The proof each channel creates for the next one.
No channel is ranked above the others. See them applied in retail vs DTC vs TV shopping.
How we handle numbers
- Published statistics are quoted as written, including ranges, and linked to their source.
- Other organizations’ findings are never presented as Cydney Mar’s own data.
- Cydney Mar’s own figures are stated as she states them on her website.
- Illustrative math examples are labeled as illustrations, not benchmarks.
What we do not do
We do not invent reviews, ratings, results or prices. We do not guarantee sales, earnings or retail placement; results vary by product and founder. Guidance here is general information, not legal, financial or regulatory advice. Quotes from clients are reproduced from Cydney Mar’s website as written.
How and when pages are updated
Each page shows a “Last updated” date. Pages are revised when facts, sources or guidance change, and the date changes only when the content does.
Common questions
Who is this guide for?
This guide is for founders with a physical product idea who are considering a retail launch and want an expert guide rather than guesswork. It also covers DTC and TV shopping, so founders still choosing a channel can compare all three paths on the same criteria before committing money to one.
What is a product launch strategy?
A product launch strategy is the plan for how a finished product reaches its first buyers: which channel, at what price, with what packaging and in what order. For physical products it starts well before launch day, with clarity on the customer, production-ready samples and margins that still hold once a retailer or TV network takes its share.
What is the difference between product development and a product launch?
Product development turns an idea into a production-ready product: specs, tech packs, samples, suppliers and costing. A product launch takes that finished product to market through a channel such as retail, DTC or TV. The two overlap, because launch decisions like target price and packaging must be made during development, not after inventory is ordered.
